The Oak Tree #1

PANEL ONE
Dog sits under the oak tree, pondering.
DOG: With each passing year, the next seems to arrive faster than the last. Why is that?
CAT: Dunno.

PANEL TWO
Cat is under the oak tree, opposite side of Dog, playing a game on their phone.
DOG: I mean, time is supposed to pass at the same rate, right?
CAT: Sure, I guess.

PANEL THREE
A spotlight shines on Dog as they deliver this tearful soliloquy.
DOG: But how the wheel of time turns over. I was just getting used to writing the date, too. Now I’m going to mess it up.
CAT: It happens.

PANEL FOUR
Dog leans out to give Cat a nasty side eye.
DOG: You’re the same age as me, getting old at the same pace as me. Don’t you feel time sleeping away like I do?
CAT: Why would I? I can always buy more for just 99 cents.
DOG: I’m not talking about microtransactions in some mobile game. I’m talking about the real life passage of time!

PANEL SIX
Close up on Cat’s phone with a modal present that reads: Time Travel? Go back in time to play some more for 99 cents? Buttons read: “Nah” and “Sure.”
CAT: So am I.

Cat taps “Sure.”

PANEL SEVEN
Starts same as Panel One.
DOG: With each passing year, the next seems to arrive faster—
CAT: Yes! Beat my high score!
DOG: Are you even listening to me?
CAT: Of course…

The end.
