Color Space Design Journal #7: Online Store, Rules v1.1, TTS Mod, and the future

Color Space exists! It’s a fully finished board game that you can hold in your hands, like a tiny dove. I wanted to write one last design journal on the game, at least for the foreseeable future, to wrap up my learnings and provide lovely closure to this beautiful game design journey.

Get ready for some buttons that send you away from this page to look at other junk! And memories. Get ready for some memories.

You can buy Color Space from the Internet!

That’s right, if you missed the chance to snag a copy at PAX, you can purchase a copy through the World Wide Web.

I’m also open to other store purchase suggestions, like if anyone would actually wear a t-shirt with the Mutant Pizza on it or something.

Rules v1.1

Okay folks, I have a new version of the rules out, ready for you to download, print, cut out, and replace. Version 1.1 adds a bit of clarity around some situations, all based on player feedback.

*All newly purchased copies of Color Space will come shipped with the newest v1.1 ruleset.

Color Space is now listed on Board Game Geek!

Took me long enough, but I finally added the game to Board Game Geek for you to track, rank, leave comments about, and all that jazz.

Tabletop Simulator Mod

This is an extremely rudimentary mod I slapped together just to get it out there. It’s free to try, as long as you already own a copy of Tabletop Simulator. Click the button below to check out the mod.

I’ll be updating it periodically with better looking assets over time, but I likely won’t make a formal announcement about any of that. I’m learning how to use Blender and sculpting hexes, ships, and cubes with the sick wood grain texture you’ve come to expect from Color Space.

A trip down memory lane

This is the physical design journal I used while developing Color Space.

I’m ready for my close-up, Mr Board Games Hobbiest

For its debut, I sold Color Space at PAX West at the Indie Night Market that was held there. I talk about this in My Experience at PAX as a Lil’ Indie Board Game Designer (shortest possible title, I swear).

Short story, short: It went well!

Short story, medium: It went well! It was a great experience and a lesson that I didn’t lose money to learn. (I made a profit off my game!) I also made friends and got to play amazing games, and got a snapshot of how the board and video games industries are doing.

Short story, long: Read the article 🙂

What’s next for Color Space?

I’ll be maintaining rules updates as needed, and slowly making the TTS mod better as I learn more about how to sculpt in Blender.

I’m teaching myself about video game design, as developing a video game has been a big passion of mine. And as such, I’m going to make digital board games from my physical ones to help with my learning process. That means that eventually, I plan on releasing a digital version of Color Space.

I currently have no plans for expansions to Color Space, but nothing’s set in stone.

But for the immediate future, I’m going to move on to developing some other board games in my queue. I’ll be making design journals for them shortly, as they’re all new ideas. And don’t worry, I’m still looking to develop these other games that I’ve already started design journals about, like One Last Job, Lingua Franca, and Escape the Entity. Those games just require way longer development cycles, and I want to get these games with shorter cycles done and dusted so I’m not distracted. I’m especially excited for One Last Job :D. I’m also slowly but surely working on new art and a new way to play Nine Muses for the 2nd edition of the game.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Thank you all so much for your support on Color Space and stay tuned for future Mutant Pizza games, baby!
