Nine Muses has been removed from the Game Crafter, print-and-play price reduced

Gather around, people, it’s announcement time!

Here is a two-fold announcement:

  1. I have unpublished Nine Muses from The Game Crafter for the foreseeable future.
  2. I’ve permanently reduced the price of the Nine Muses print-and-play (available through itch.io) to $2.00 (Yankee Doodle Dandy Currency Units).

How could you do this to us, your loyal fanbase?

I apologize to the 10 people (I’m probably being generous) who have purchased Nine Muses, but to answer the question: I did it through the arduous process of clicking the “unpublish” button on their website.

Okay, smart guy, why did you do this?

The Game Crafter has recently announced that as of Jan 1st, 2026, they’ll be raising their prices AGAIN. This is the second (third?) increase over the past two years. You can read their full announcement below:

I only make about $0.40 per copy, with the game selling for $35 + shipping. I can’t justify raising the price of the physical game any more than that, so I’ve unpublished it instead.

To add to that, even at $2.00, I make about $1.30 from selling the print-and-play version of Nine Muses. I make more money selling PDFs at dirt cheap price than selling a physical copy at a overpriced-but-I-had-to-sell-it-at-that-price-to-even-make-forty-cents price.

I think a lot about the price of my games. I want to price them at a point that’s affordable but where I can generate some amount of revenue to invest in future games projects and pay myself a lil’ livin’ money (you know, for livin’); i.e., I want to make some money while keeping the price down as much as possible. I’d probably have to raise the price of the game to $40 or more just to make the same $0.40 per copy (maybe even less). It’s just not worth it.

Dang. Can I get a dang physical copy of your dang game any dang where?

Not at the moment.

I’m slowly working on being able to self manufacture my games, sourcing assets only when needed. I’m not there yet. I’m hoping to have enough equipment of my own to be able to print cards and 3D print/paint assets by 2029. At that point, I wouldn’t have to rely on outside manufacturing for most of my games, and I’d still offer print-and- plays through sites like itch, as well as this site (which is something else I’m working on offering).

Until then, I’m at the mercy of what manufacturers want to do in terms of price setting for assets. When I have a more affordable source to make Nine Muses, the physical version will be made available again.

That’s all for now, smell ya’ later!
